when you can charge your phone wirelessly

17 Jun

it such an ironic when i did think about this matter for quite sometime now. and it kicks me by surprise when i read the first topic in Yahoo! about “Prototype Nokia phone recharges without wires”.

have you face dilemma when your phone runs out battery and you just need to use it for emergency. or NOT haha and its such a pain when you know there are much credits balance in your phone but you can’t use. why? because your phone off battery and you have no charger. haha

not believe me? read this:

Nokia, however, has taken another baby step in that direction with the invention of a cell phone that recharges itself using a unique system: It harvests ambient radio waves from the air, and turns that energy into usable power. Enough, at least, to keep a cell phone from running out of juice.

While “traditional” (if there is such a thing) wireless power systems are specifically designed with a transmitter and receiver in mind, Nokia’s system isn’t finicky about where it gets its wireless waves. TV, radio, other mobile phone systems — all of this stuff just bounces around the air and most of it is wasted, absorbed into the environment or scattered into the ether. Nokia picks up all the bits and pieces of these waves and uses the collected electromagnetic energy to create electrical current, then uses that to recharge the phone’s battery. A huge range of frequencies can be utilized by the system (there’s no other way, really, as the energy in any given wave is infinitesimal). It’s the same idea that Tesla was exploring 100 years ago, just on a tiny scale.

Mind you, harvesting ambient electromagnetic energy is never going to offer enough electricity to power your whole house or office, but it just might be enough to keep a cell phone alive and kicking. Currently Nokia is able to harvest all of 5 milliwatts from the air; the goal is to increase that to 20 milliwatts in the short term and 50 milliwatts down the line. That wouldn’t be enough to keep the phone alive during an active call, but would be enough to slowly recharge the cell phone battery while it’s in standby mode, theoretically offering infinite power — provided you’re not stuck deep underground where radio waves can’t penetrate.

Nokia says it hopes to commercialize the technology in three to five years.

New phone?

26 Dec

I know I need a new one as my unreliable-most part-not function 6610i phone making me fed up already. But I’m not really phone buyer.. My dad bought me 1st phone (nokia 3315) and mom for the 2nd (nokia 6610i). Basically, the phone need to be not-function-dead at all for me to buying new one haha I’m like the lamest phone owner: no 3G, camera 1.3mp, sound polyphonic and DEAD! haha I’m quite choosy in buying one.. to much options and I end up not buying any haha teruk kan? which one I should buy eh?

1I’m dying to this model since Libby ( sisterhood travelling pants 2) own it! but 2.0mp and LG (no offence for LG user. I’m quite a ganas2 type. this kind of phone will broken within a second) is such a turn off! I love the side-flipping sound. such adore!

2 its Nokia, touch screen, 3.2mp,up to 16GB, express music means great sound but rm1600 maybe too much?

3 this one is crazy! 800×480 screen, QWERTY, touch screen, 3.2mp and lots more! this one is a dying one and one hell of price too! argh! WAY out my price range. bye bye Xperia X1 wuuu

48.1mp! its cybershot! one hell of camera haha.. 1600 still too much for me to bear.

5 n-series always a catching one. 32Gb internal memory, 5mp Carl ZeissTessar lens, N-gage games, 3.5 inch screen. such a blow! I guess it must match up price with xperia huk

arr too much option and too pricey! I also wish to have any DOPOD, O2 or HTC. probably after I start working. for now, I’m buying an economic one but I still finding the right. oh phone~~

rotating tower of Dubai

10 Jun

I was amazed again. This architecture is awesome!! It used dynamic architecture rather than traditional one. I’m not sure whether it works. we’ll see later.

Who design?

Dr David Fisher, Architect and Town Planner, is an Italian citizen, who has been passionately working on redefining the technical and technological extremes of buildings, especially in urban centres. Fisher started as an artist in Florence , the home of Italian Renaissance. After graduating with Honors from the University of Florence in 1976, Fisher started teaching Architecture in the same university and at the School of Structural Engineering . Some of the technologies he developed include the ‘Smart Bathroom by Leonardo da Vinci’ system, a completely pre-assembled bathroom system for luxury hotels and homes. Considered the first “mechanical” approach to civil construction, it is the only existing factory-produced and integrated bathroom system.

What is Dynamic architecture?

Dynamic Architecture buildings keep modifying their shape. As each floor rotates separately, the form of the building changes constantly; you may not see the same building twice. This new approach, based on motion dynamics, is in fact a challenge to traditional architecture that until now was based on gravity. This fourth dimension has been the essence of David Fisher’s work so far.

The Dynamic Architecture building, which will be constantly in motion changing its shape, will be able to generate electric energy for itself as well as for other buildings. Forty-eight wind turbines fitted between each rotating floors as well as the solar panels positioned on the roof of the building will produce energy from wind and the sunlight, with no risk of pollution. The total energy produced by this inbuilt ‘powerhouse’ every year will be worth approximately seven million dollars.
The modern design of the building and the carbon fiber special shape of the wings take care of the acoustics issues. Producing that much electric energy without any implication on the aesthetic aspect of the building is a revolutionary step in tapping alternative energy sources. Furthermore, this energy will have a positive impact on the environment and economy.
